Snoopy es el perro favorito en la cultura pop

El personaje de la tira cómica ‘Peanuts’ Snoopy fue escogido como el mejor perro en la cultura ‘pop’ tras una votación en Internet organizada por el American Kennel Club, que celebraba sus 125 años. El inseparable amigo de Charlie Brown superó en la votación a una conocida mascota deportiva universitaria y Scooby Doo, segundo y tercero respectivamente.
Cerca de 76.000 votantes por Internet escogieron a sus favoritos de una lista de perros de la cultura pop seleccionados de la televisión, cine, literatura, deportes y arte, según explicó un portavoz del Kennel Club.
Snoopy era un pensativo perro cuyo mejor amigo era un pájaro y parecía más astuto que su amo humano en la caricatura creada por Charles Schulz, quien murió en el 2000. ‘Peanuts’, que por cerca de cinco décadas sirvió de espejo para la llamada generación ‘baby boom’, salió publicada en 2.600 diarios en 21 idiomas.
Además de los citados animales, reales o de ficción, el top ten de la lista se completa con otros nombres como Eddie –el perro del ’show’ televisivo Frasier–, la canción ‘Who let the dogs out’ del grupo Baha Men o, más recientemente, Brian Griffin, el erudito personaje de la serie de dibujos animados ‘Family Guy’.

March 15, 2005—Six-year-old Norfolk terrier Champion Cracknor Cause Celebre (you can call her Coco) won the Best in Show trophy at the Crufts dog competition in Birmingham, England, on Sunday. As the largest dog show in the world, according to Guinness World Records, the four-day event hosted more than 120,000 spectators this year. Coco’s top dog status is nothing to sniff at. She’s the first of her breed to win the 102-year-old contest, and she beat out nearly 22,000 other pooches for the privilege. Among those thousands was Buster, a British Army spaniel named Hero Dog of the Year for bomb sniffing in war zones from Bosnia to Iraq.
